Fee 2025

Health insurers have announced their terms for 2025. The health insurance law has reimbursement for foot care for people with chronic conditions and an increased risk of developing foot ulcers; this is in the basic insurance. For a number of conditions, reimbursement is sometimes possible from the supplementary insurance.

Zorgwijzer.nl has compiled a summary of the reimbursements for foot care under the various supplementary insurance policies. Our advice is to check which foot care is covered by your supplementary insurance.

For the treatment of various foot complaints, foot care in the form of pedicure is very appropriate. Pedicure can also be used for maintaining and keeping the feet beautiful. This includes cutting and painting the nails and other cosmetic procedures.

Basic insurance reimbursement

Pedicure is reimbursed from the basic insurance only in the following cases:

  • If you have diabetes mellitus
  • If you have an increased risk of foot ulcers

The level of reimbursement depends on the foot problems.

The reimbursement of pedicures from the basic insurance works with care profiles.

There are four care profiles. Here, the higher the care profile, the more foot care is required.

For care profile 1, there are coverage options from the supplementary insurance. From care profile 2 onwards, reimbursements are possible from the basic insurance.

Conditions of coverage

All diabetic patients are entitled from the basic insurance to an annual foot screening by the general practitioner, primary care physician (POH) or diabetes nurse. The care profile ultimately determines whether foot care is also reimbursed from the basic insurance.

Patients with care profile 1, 2, 3 and 4 are entitled to:

  • An annual targeted foot examination by a podiatrist (performance code 96/22013); or
  • An examination by a podiatrist (performance code 90/9200)

Patients with care profile 2, 3 and 4 are additionally entitled to:

  • Checks
  • Foot care and treatment to prevent skin ulcers

Patients with care profile 3 and 4 are also still entitled to:

  • Podiatry

Fulfillment of care

  1. Patients can use chain care through a healthcare group. This is a collaboration between general practitioners and other health care providers, such as pedicures and podiatrists.
  2. Patients are referred by their primary care physician to a podiatrist. This therapist further examines the feet and sees how much and what care your feet need.

For option 1:

There is less or even no deductible to pay. Ask your primary care physician about the options and contracted providers within the chain of care.

For option 2:

The podiatrist can arrange coordination of foot care with the affiliated pedicurist(s), so you can go to the pedicurist for necessary foot treatments.

Be sure to use contracted health care providers. Otherwise, reimbursement may be lower. A deductible does apply to the insured with option 2.

Supplemental health insurance reimbursement

If foot care is not covered by basic insurance, reimbursement is sometimes possible under supplemental insurance.

Additional coverage is available for:

  1. Patients with rheumatoid arthritis, spinal cord injury or other medically necessary complaints.
  2. Patients with diabetes with care profile 1
  3. Patients with a medical foot, for example due to MS or Parkinson's disease

Note:
Not every health insurer reimburses on all three points, so check the terms and conditions carefully. For point 2, it is possible that a health insurer will only reimburse patients who fall under care profile 1 and thus will not offer reimbursement for patients with simms 0.

Terms

In the context of reimbursement, there are some important things to consider:

  • There is no deductible for reimbursement from supplemental health insurance.
  • In many cases (with natura policies), the patient is only entitled to reimbursement if his/her pedicure is contracted by the health insurance company.
  • In most cases, the prerequisite is a medical pedicurist, paramedic chiropodist or a pedicurist with the diabetic/rheumatic foot endorsement.
  • The reimbursements below are in some cases covered by a 'foot care' budget. This means that multiple forms of care are reimbursed from this budget. In practice, this may mean, for example, that someone has used their 'credit' for podiatry or orthotics and that there is no reimbursement left for pedicure.

It is always wise to also contact the health insurance company in the context of reimbursement. The reimbursements below serve mainly as an indication.
